Founded 1887 by British Government representatives and planters. The Club’s initial location on Jalan Datuk Hamzah was in the former High Court building, and only the British and local royalty were allowed to join. After 67 years of operation, the Club welcomed three residents to become Honorary Members in 1954. Community leaders such as Tuan Sheikh Ahmad, Mr. Lee Fong Yee, and Dr. J. Samuel. A longtime participant, Datuk Mahima Singh, was made an Honorary Member in subsequent years. The Registrar of Societies granted the Club Royal status on February 2, 2002, and it was officially recognized on March 12, 2003.
